Biography

Olly Williams is a multidisciplinary Production Designer and Art Director working in the UK film industry on medium to high budget features and HETV. He has had a prolific career working on a feature film with Aaron Haye “BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY”, “SILO” S1 with Gavin Bocquet and Ridley Scott's “GLADIATOR 2” with Arthur Max. Most recently he has been Senior Art Director working with Nigel Phelps, and is currently working for Gemma Jackson on “ELOISE AT THE PLAZA”-an Amy Sherman-Palladino film. He is particularly enthusiastic about new technologies and the mentoring of newcomers. To this end he is a Core Committee member of the BFDG, which was founded by his grandfather - the late Lawrence P. Williams (Production Designer of David Lean’s ‘Brief Encounter’), volunteering there and teaching at places like Pinewood and Leavesden. Oliver has worked in the UK, Malta, Hungary and other countries abroad, particularly enjoying the challenge of establishing an Art Department in countries will less service infrastructure than we have at home in the UK. Olly’s interests don’t stop with the Art Department: he is also a passionate indie filmmaker having directed and produced the multi award winning “ADIRA’S DREAM”in 2017. He has written 10 more feature scripts and hopes to make these passion projects in between bigger and better Production Designing projects. On the use of AI in the Film industry: Olly believes it is a shame to threaten the jobs of hard earned disciplines, but conversely there is room in this ever growing industry for new techniques that may eventually democratise storytelling in its most advanced form. In his down time Olly enjoys taking photographs and drawing - see his sketch a day project on www.oliverwilliams.com or follow him on socials: @oblidah
