Biography

Pascale Neuschäfer is a South African cinematographer based between London and Cape Town. Originally trained as an actor, specialising in dance and movement, she later completed an MA in Cinematography at Goldsmiths, University of London. This background informs a visual approach attentive to movement, rhythm and performance. Working across narrative, commercials and documentaries, her films have screened internationally at festivals including Hot Docs, BFI Flare, Encounters, Cinéma du Réel, Nashville Film Festival, Bergen International Film Festival and Durban International Film Festival. In 2023, she received a SAFTA nomination for Best Documentary Short for Tribe, which she filmed and directed. Her credits include work for HBO, Showmax, Warner Bros., SABC, Canal+ and Silwerskerm. She is a member of the International Collective of Female Cinematographers (ICFC), BAFTA Connect and Primetime Network, and is currently a BSC mentee. Drawn to inclusive, layered stories, her work centres on images that support performance, tone and character. Her international experience spans locations from Scotland and Zambia to Azerbaijan, Senegal and South Africa. Pascale speaks English, German, French and Afrikaans and holds South African and EU passports, alongside UK Indefinite Leave to Remain.
