Sergio VegaBorrego
Biography
Sergio is a film editor with an MA in Film Editing from the National Film and Television School, where he won the Kodak Student Award two years running. With a background in Media Studies from the Complutense University of Madrid. He has since gone on to edit a wide range of projects screened at major festivals including Berlin, Rotterdam, CPH:DOX and Leipzig, with work broadcast on Channel 4, BBC and The Guardian. His credits include "The Stimming Pool", screened at MoMA and selected for the BFI London Film Festival; "Splendid Hotel", starring Damien Bonnard; Island, nominated for Best Documentary at BIFA; and "Hearing Out Hate", which premiered at the Málaga Film Festival. A fruitful collaboration with filmmakers such as John Akomfrah has also taken him into the world of video art, with works including "Vertigo Sea", "Arcadia" and "Four Nocturnes"- all shown in major museums and galleries worldwide - as well as "Listening All Night to the Rain", which represented Britain at the 60th Venice Biennale. Together with Caterina Monzani, he co-founded the production company MiaFilm and directed the documentary "La Valle dello Jato", which won Best Documentary at the Rome Independent Film Festival. He also holds a Masters in Visual Culture Research from Goldsmiths University, collaborates as a guest lecturer at film schools and universities, and is fluent in English, Spanish, Italian and French.
